FAQ Bath toys
The black spots, which might be mould spots (we don't know as we haven't seen it), can only appear if the bath toy has been wet/ moist for a longer period and not dried after use. However, we trust that you might be able to clean the mould off. Vinegar is a wonderful natural disinfectant and is safer than bleach. Please mix 1/2 cup of white vinegar with a gallon of water and let the toys soak for an hour. Scrub the toys down with a sponge and let them dry completely. This should help and if not all the moulding is released, please repeat the treatment.
When the bathing toy is not in use, dry it and keep in a clean and dry place, out of direct sunlight and heat. Produced from 100% natural rubber latex.
The bathing toys should be cleaned by hand or in a machine especially suitable for rubber. They should not be washed in a dishwasher. For a more natural approach to cleaning your bath toys, use vinegar. Mix four parts white vinegar to one part warm water. Submerge the toys completely or apply the solution to each toy with a sponge.
Kawan is hand painted with pigments from vegetables and plants. Due to the colours being natural, they might fade over time. The toy should be kept in a clean, dry place out of direct sunlight or contact with a source of direct heat in order to last longer.
The HEVEA bath toys have no holes in the bottom as most other bath toys. This prevents grime and mould build-up inside the bath toy and keeps your baby’s bath water safe. The bath toys are free from BPA, phthalates, and PVC, which make them safe to chew on and bathe with, without harm from chemicals.
HEVEA’s products are all tested to the highest standard. HEVEA bath toys comply with CE standards. We are continuously testing our products and can reassure you that there is no reason to be worried. We have very good test results in all tests. We work with an independent research agency, SGS, one of the world’s leading company for testing and analysis.
HEVEA is made from 100% natural rubber which isn’t conserved or given added antioxidants to keep it light yellow. Natural rubber is a natural material that changes over time.
Yes, HEVEA bath toys are tested by independent analysis prove compliance with the CE safety standard.
FAQ Kawan Teether
The Kawan teether can be cleaned in warm water and mild soap can be used if needed. Do NOT boil it. The teether should be kept in a clean, dry place out of direct sunlight or contact with a source of direct heat in order to last longer. Due to the natural colours, they might fade over time. If there are splits or changes in the teether, it should be discarded. Very few children are allergic to natural rubber, however watch out for any allergic reactions, and stop any use if an allergic reaction should occur because of using the teether.
It should NOT be cleaned in a dishwasher or microwave.
It is not recommended to freeze or cool down the teether, as it can damage the baby’s gums.
HEVEA’s products are all tested to prove that they meet EU standard EN1400, US regulations CPSIA and AUS regulation AS 2432-1991. We are continuously testing our products, and can reassure you that there is no reason to be worried. We have very good results in all tests. Yes. HEVEA teethers are tested by independent laboratories to prove compliance with the CE & EN71 safety standard.
Firstly, you have to choose the shape: orthodontic, round or symmetrical teat/ nipple.
Then comes the size: Newborn 0-3 and 3+. For babies which like a very big nipple we do also offer the Star & Moon orthodontic LARGE model. It can be used from all ages (as the 3+).
The "old" pacifier might have "grown" in size, which can happen as it is a natural flexible material. As natural rubber pacifiers are made from a natural material, it can change in colour and shape over time. It is possible that the pacifier you have has resized if the child sucks very hard, if it has been used too long (we recommend replacing pacifiers every 6-8 weeks) or has been incorrectly stored/maintained i.e washed in dishwashing machine.
Therefore, it is often an advantage to have a few pacifiers in progress at the same time and to replace every other month.
All pacifiers should be replaced every 2 months.
No, it is not normal that the pacifier is peeling. The problem can be that you might have used it for more than the recommended 2 months or cleaned it in a non-suitable way.
All pacifiers should be replaced at least every 2 months for hygienic reasons – like toothbrushes. In order to ensure proper hygiene, the pacifier should be cleaned by hand or in machines especially suitable for this, and must not be cleaned in a dishwasher or microwave (unless use of relevant sterilising box). The pacifier can be sterilized in boiling water. We suggest you stop using it if peeling and replace it with a new one.
It is also a good idea to use more than one pacifier at a time, in that way your pacifier will not wear out as fast and will last longer.
It is very individual and varies a lot from culture to culture, from parent to parent and of course from child to child. We recommend stopping using pacifiers no later than 3 years.
And did you know that we actually can upcycle them and reuse and you can save money - read more here: https://heveaplanet.com/upcycling/
The pacifier can be disposed of as organic waste. However, you can also send us your old pacifiers and receive a discount on your next purchase here at our webshop. We hate waste but we love upcycling. Read more here: https://heveaplanet.com/upcycling/
The natural rubber used to manufacture our pacifiers contains no preservatives or antioxidants. Natural rubber changes in colour over time.
Before using for the first time I noticed the pacifier felt greasy and had an odour – is this natural?
Yes, our pacifiers have a fine layer of vegetable oil to prevent them from drying out. This disappears during the initial sterilisation. The odour is that of natural rubber.
Nitrosamines are found in natural rubber as well as other natural things such as avocado, smoked meat etc. Our products meet all required standards and tests show that the nitrosamine level is non-detectable.

Yes, independent tests and analysis ensure that our pacifiers meet all required standards in Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand.
It is highly unlikely; however, protein is a naturally occurring element in latex from the rubber tree which actually helps to preserve the rubber in a liquid state allowing us to work with it. During the production process, much of the latex protein is leeched out, resulting in very low levels in the finished item.
No allergic reaction to any Hevea product has yet been reported, but we urge parents to be aware of the unlikely potential for a latex allergic reaction.
Allergic reactions to latex vary considerably. If you are aware of any family history of latex allergy or if you notice any symptoms in your child that cause you concern or if your child has had a previous reaction to any other rubber products then we suggest you stop the use of your Hevea product without delay and visit your medical practitioner. Identifying early symptoms may prevent more serious effects.
The rubber industry as a whole is constantly looking at ways to reduce the potential for allergic reaction and we actively support our suppliers in this initiative. Allergic reactions to latex are not normally dangerous, but symptoms of it can include:
- Itchy, red or watery eyes
- Sneezing or a runny nose
- Rash or hives
- Chest tightness
- Shortness of breath
