Women for Women

INVEST IN GIRLS. EMPOWER THEIR FUTURE. CHANGE THE WORLD.

Help us empower girls facing period poverty by providing our reusable menstrual products such as the Loop cup, menstrual health education, and safe spaces. Period poverty is an urgent crisis, forcing 1 in 10 menstruating girls to miss school and hindering their future opportunities. Each Loop cup can be used for over five years, offering a sustainable and cost-effective solution that transforms lives and ensures no girl is left behind.

Together with 100% for The Children we’ve donated and distributed our natural rubber menstrual cup, the LOOP Cup, to hundreds of young women in Kenya but soon also in many other places. So Watch this space.!

The Impact

COVID-19 has had devastating effects on womens’ rights in large parts of the World. Most adolescent girls in Machakos
are missing 20% of their education, because of lack of sufficient sanitary pads needed to attend school during their
period. Additionally, their families are under severe economic strain.

The Challenge

Period poverty is a global crisis, with 1 in 10 menstruating girls missing school due to lack of access to products and health services (UN). The World Bank estimates 500 million people lack basic menstrual products and hygienic facilities. Women experience ~450 periods, equal to 3,500 days or 10 years of their lives, generating 150kg of waste per person. Every girl deserves education and opportunity, unhindered by menstruation. With your help, we can provide sustainable empowerment.

The Solution

We tackle period poverty by distributing reusable, biodegradable Loop menstrual cups with a 5-year lifespan. Through our "Breaking the Silence" program, we provide menstrual hygiene and health training, foster open discussions to break taboos, and support a circular economy with female-led production of storage bags. This sustainable, plastic-free approach restores dignity, empowers girls with education and self-esteem, and reduces waste and water use globally.

The Logn-term Impact

We aim to support 100,000 girls with access to reusable menstrual cups and training. In 2023 alone, distributing 1,350 cups and training of 5,000 girls led to fewer missed school days during having their period. The initiative drives environmental impact by replacing disposable products with reusable, biodegradable cups, cutting waste and promoting sustainability. Empowering women through female-led production further boosts economic opportunities, creating lasting benefits for communities.

Positive Contributions

We cannot save the whole world, but we want to make positive contributions where we can.

We have just recently launched a new project which should help and encourage these young women to be entrepreneurs.

We will exchange 1 LOOP Cup 1 for 1 storage bag made from local upcycled textiles sewn by themselves - making it possible for them to gain an income by reselling the cups they earn to other women in their community.

SDG 5 is all about ensuring women and girls have the same opportunities and rights as men and boys. It focuses on ending discrimination and violence against women and girls, and promoting equal chances in leadership, education, and jobs.

In simple terms, it's about creating a fair and equal world where everyone,

regardless of gender, can thrive and succeed.
