PARTNERSHIP PROJECTS

THE 100.000 PERIOD POVERTY PROJECT

INVEST IN GIRLS. EMPOWER THEIR FUTURE. CHANGE THE WORLD. Help us empower girls facing period poverty by providing reusable menstrual products, menstrual health education, and safe spaces. Period poverty is an urgent crisis, forcing 1 in 10 menstruating girls to miss school and hindering their future opportunities. Each reusable menstrual cup provided lasts over five years, offering a sustainable and cost-effective solution that transforms lives and ensures no girl is left behind.

Period poverty is a global crisis, with 1 in 10 menstruating girls missing school due to lack of access to products and health services (UN). The World Bank estimates 500 million people lack basic menstrual products and hygienic facilities. Women experience ~450 periods, equal to 3,500 days or 10 years of their lives, generating 150kg of waste per person. Every girl deserves education and opportunity, unhindered by menstruation. With your help, we can provide sustainable empowerment.

We tackle period poverty by distributing reusable, biodegradable Loop menstrual cups with a 5-year lifespan. Through our "Breaking the Silence" program, we provide menstrual hygiene and health training, foster open discussions to break taboos, and support a circular economy with female-led production of storage bags. This sustainable, plastic-free approach restores dignity, empowers girls with education and self-esteem, and reduces waste and water use globally.

We aim to support 100,000 girls with access to reusable menstrual cups and training. In 2023 alone, distributing 1,350 cups and training of 5,000 girls led to fewer missed school days during having their period. The initiative drives environmental impact by replacing disposable products with reusable, biodegradable cups, cutting waste and promoting sustainability. Empowering women through female-led production further boosts economic opportunities, creating lasting benefits for communities.

WOMEN FOR WOMEN

Together with our partners, 100% for Børnene and Positive Life Kenya, we’ve donated and distributed our natural rubber menstrual cup, the LOOP Cup, to hundreds of young women in Machakos county - one of the toughest neighborhoods outside of Nairobi in Kenya.

COVID-19 has had devastating effects on womens’ rights in large parts of the World. Most adolescent girls in Machakos
are missing 20% of their education, because of lack of sufficient sanitary pads needed to attend school during their
period. Additionally, their families are under severe economic strain.

We cannot save the whole world, but we want to make positive contributions where we can. We have just recently
launched a new project which should help and encourage these young women to be entrepreneurs. We will exchange 1
LOOP Cup 1 for 1 storage bag made from local upcycled textiles sewn by themselves - making it possible for them to
gain an income by reselling the cups they earn to other women in their community.

These young women will be sustainable distribution agents in the community. The model allows for the cup to be sold
very cheap meaning that the women reselling the cups are free to price the cup as they find reasonable according to
the context - which is essential. Plus, we reduce so much landfill waste as a result of not using conventional products.

Business as a Force for Good!

SDG 5 is all about ensuring women and girls have the same opportunities and rights as men and boys. It focuses on ending discrimination and violence against women and girls, and promoting equal chances in leadership, education, and jobs. In simple terms, it's about creating a fair and equal world where everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive and succeed.

The projects which support this goal are as follows:

Our pacifier holders are handmade from women, which isnt able to have a job, but can work a few hours per day from home. By helping us making our pacifier holders, we can in return ensure that they get some of their own money and this way dont only depend on their husband. So you actually
also support these women when buying our pacifier holders. Thank you!

In 2021, we proudly launched a partnership with Tree Nation to plant our own Hevea forest. Our love for trees and all things green is an intrinsic part of our being at HEVEA.

Tree Nation works on reforestation and conservation projects to restore forests, create jobs, support local communities, and protect biodiversity. We are especially excited to plant Hevea trees, as they are deeply intertwined with our brand and products. The natural rubber we use is made from the sap tapped from Hevea trees, and the rubberwood we use for our products comes from these very trees.

We began our partnership by planting 4,600 Hevea Brasiliensis trees in the beautiful Amazonia Rioterra project in Brazil. This initiative helps offset our CO2 emissions and reforest the lungs of Mother Earth. You can see our growing forest at Tree Nation.

Planting trees is one of the most effective ways to combat climate change, and we are thrilled to contribute to this cause.
